An online relationship can have problems.
When you've been dating for a long time without much success, you might be tempted to turn to an online relationship. But just like in any relationship, online relationships have their share of problems as well.
When you're in an online relationship, it seems to be a lot easier than a regular relationship. You've got someone there who cares and you have a good rapport with this person, but how well do you really know them? Or maybe you are getting from it exactly what you want. After all, at this point it's pretty new, and the new stage in a relationship is an exciting time. Each thinks the other is nearly perfect, because each is trying to make a good impression. But in an online relationship, this can cause people to lie more so than in an in-person relationship. Most of the lies are about physical appearance and jobs or income. Whereas, if you're dating someone in person, you know what they look like and you probably have a good idea of their economic standing. You also know little things about their personality that make a big difference, like if they have polish, class, manners and intelligence.
Another thing that can cause problems in an online relationship is the fact that someone you meet online might live far away, so on top of being in an online relationship, you're also in a long distance relationship. This makes it even more difficult to make it successful. If/when you finally decide to meet in person, you can't let the other person stay at your place right off the bat. After all, he could be some kind of psychopathic killer or a thief or a rapist. You don't know. You really, really don't.
Of course, most people have relationship problems at one point or another, but having an online relationship creates a whole new set of problems. If you decide to go ahead with an online relationship, keep this relationship advice in mind: keep it local. This way, when you meet in person, you can bring friends for an extra measure of protection (in case this person really is a psychopath). The last thing you need is to fly across the country to meet a stranger you think you know because of this online relationship, only to find yourself alone and possible scared with no means of help.
